EDVA Score Sheet Instruction

  1. EDVA score sheets are printed on 3-part stationery. Before commencing ensure that the board is placed under the 3rd copy to avoid overwriting subsequent score sheets.
  2. Enter current date, Division, Home team and Away team.
  3. Home and away teams must enter their own team details including players names and shirt numbers for all players intending to take part. This must include any substitutes.
  4. All players names must be entered prior to the fixture beginning, if not they will be deemed un-registered for that match. A player may be entered on the score sheet who is not present at the start of the fixture. Such a player may not take part in the set in progress upon arrival at the venue, but may take part in subsequent sets.
  5. Teams may use a Libero player, who must wear a different coloured shirt for the duration of the match. The Libero must be indicated in the space provided on the score sheet:
  6. Any player playing up from a lower ranked team must be indicated by a tick in the space provided (only applies to clubs with more than one team).
  7. Players being registered for the first time should appear in the list of players and marked with a tick in the space provided. If the player is playing up and newly registered, details of the team for whom they are to be registered should also be completed in the space provided (New Registration box).
  8. Once the referee has flipped a coin to determine service/ends, this will be indicated to the scorer who may then fill in the team names, left and right, for Set 1, depending on which team is playing in the left/right court.
  9. Team coaches are required to give the 2nd referee their team rotation prior to the start of each set. The scorer will use these rotation slips to fill in the shirt numbers of each player in the appropriate boxes.
  10. Position I relates to the player starting in position 1 on court, i.e. service position, position II equates to position 2 on court (i.e. front right facing the net), and so on around the rotation to position VI (middle back). In the above example the rotation slip order using players shirt numbers is shown below, the net is always at the top and the on court captain is indicated with a circle around the players number e.g. number 6. `
You can download blank rotation slips from: EDVA  Rotation slips / EVA Rotation slips / Modifiable Rotation Slips
  11. The 2nd referee should indicate which team is to commence serving. The player in Position 1 for that team will commence serving. For the receiving team, they will need to win a rally and then rotate one position before they commence service. This means that the player in position II will be their first server and an 'X' is therefore placed in service attempt 1 box as indicated in the diagram in 9. above.
  12. Service attempt boxes are numbered 1 to 8, and these are used to record the teams score at the end of each rotation. This information maybe used to retrace rotation errors during the set and should be completed accurately as soon as the referee has indicated change of server.
  13. In the example, FP Wanderers have substituted player 13 for player 15 when the score was 7 : 10 to the opposition. They also made a 2nd substitution bringing on player 1 for player 24 when the score was 12 : 12. In accordance with the rules they then subsequently brought player 24 back on court to replace player 1 when the score stood at 16 : 18 to the opposition.
  14. As points are scored by each team they are indicated on the flip chart situated on the scorers table. This enables teams, referee, spectators, etc to see the score at any point during the match I set. The scorer should also record each point scored in each set in the boxes provided as set out below. At any point in the match the score on the flip chart should correspond with the score checked off in the Points boxes for each team.
  15. Teams are allowed 2 time outs per set. The Scorer should indicate that a team has taken a time out by filling in the score in the boxes provided at the time the team took the time out. In the example above the team were losing 15 : 18.
  16. Teams change ends after each set. In the final set teams also change ends again when one team reaches 8 points. When teams change ends the scorer will need to transfer the shirt numbers, points and time out details from the first team boxes to the third team boxes. This ensures that the scorer is not confused by having the team in the left hand box on the score sheet playing on the right hand side of the court.
  17. At the end of each set the scorer writes the set score in the result boxes provided, ensuring that the correct score is completed for Home and Away teams to avoid confusion later. At the end of the match the scorer writes the final score in sets in the Home and Away Team boxes provided.
  18. The referee completes 'Player of the match' details and signs the score sheet, visiting captain signs, taking the 2nd copy, whilst the home captain signs and completes a short match report before forwarding the top copy to the Fixtures Secretary (within 7 days of the match).
